I spent much of July on the small Caribbean island of Dominica living in fair isolation, environmentally low/no-impact, at the Three Rivers Eco-Lodge.

 What I Saw

 

  • More birds than I could count!
  • An infinite number of tree lizards

  • Thousands of iguanas

  • Hundreds of forest crabs and beach crabs

  • 3 donkeys

  • 5 cows

  • Millions of moths, butterflies, cockroaches, ants, flies, mosquitoes, and large weighty flying things that I couldn't identify

  • Fireflies which filled the night

  • 2 awesome cats

  • Many grizzly-looking spiders

  • 3 sperm whales

  • 8 bottle-nosed dolphins

  • Dozens of bats

  • 1 manicou

  • No boas, no turtles.
