Why.Japan?

In the Spring of 2002 I applied for a grant through the Toyota International Teacher Program, a chance for 50 teachers across the United States to visit Japan and learn about business, education, arts, and culture.  In return I  agreed to bring what I learned back to Dondero.

What did I do differently after the trip?

Students found opportunities to exchange writing informally with students from Japan.  In addition, I brought some style ideas from Japanese culture into our Western writing.

My literature classes saw the addition of Eastern literature and thought.  Lit. of the Western World saw a revision to a pilot course, Literature of the Non-Western World, reading works from ancient China and Japan up through modern works.  AP English also read contemporary novels of Japan.

Model UN continues to pursue opportunities to work with Japanese youth in international debate.
