Seafood Issues
For a variety of reasons, not all fish are equal environmentally. Many now habitually have high toxin levels from poor waste management. Others harm the environment from overfishing, poorly-managed farming, and catching methods which harm the oceans. The FDA, EPA, and other NGOs make this data available, but here is a quick summary:
Generally Safe and Fair Fish: √
Anchovies, arctic char, barramundi (farmed), calamari. catfish (US farmed), clams, crawfish, dungeness crab, fish sticks, summer flounder, haddock, hake, halibut (Pacific), herring, king crab (US), lobster, Mid-Atlantic blue crab, mussels, Northern shrimp (US-farmed), oysters, Alaskan salmon, perch, white shrimp (US-farmed), sardines, bay scallops, sole (Pacific), spot prawn, stone crab, tilapia (US farmed), rainbow trout (farmed), tuna (albacore or skipjack, US), whitefish
