"Shall not the Lord of all do right?"

| D Tyler | 5 | 4/17/2010 10:20 PM | Lilith I want to bring up the Lilith story, I'm not sure of it's relevance to our discussions, but it does have to do with Genesis, so I don't see why I can't.
For those who don't know, here is a brief explanation of Lilith. And since I know most won't take the time to read that, here's my short yet less accurate version: Lilith refers to a demon in ancient myth, commonly believed to have been the first woman, and Adam's original mate. She was rebellious, and argued with Adam, refusing to be subservient to him, and she ended up leaving Eden, which lead to God creating Eve, who was made from Adams own flesh and therefore unable to refuse him. It is rumored that, after leaving Eden, Lilith accepted Lucifer into her bed, becoming one the first of the succubi, and the first of the demons. This controversial story is rarely mentioned in the Bible's many adaptions, but the legend was passed down right along side the Bible, so its truth is no less valid than that of the bible itself.
What i wonder, is how does the Lilith story relate to our discussions about happiness and the Genesis story. Lilith was not happy following the rules of God, and she left to find her own happiness, and, however controversial it may be, she did find it. Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden after disobeying God's commands, and, as Chisnell says, lost happiness forever. I'll bring this idea up in class, but i wonder, what are anyone's thoughts on the matter? |

Then he tries to hide from god and that shows god sees all and we cant hide our sin and god sees in our heart. |
| Charlie Hustle14 | 6 | 4/17/2010 2:50 PM | Did God Do addam and eve a favor by kicking them out of the garden? Well the tree next to the tree of knowldge and wisdom was the tree of life. I feel like they were fufilling prophecy and eat from the tree. So of they were to stay in the garden and they would have eventually eaten from the tree of life. So then humans would have to live forever in sin. So god did us a favor by not leeting us live there so now we can be saved from our sins |

After reading the Genesis story, I have to wonder, did Eve, and subsequently Adam, think they knew better than God? When they chose to eat of the fruit of knowledge, they clearly knew that God didn't want them to, but they did so regardless. This implies that they valued their morals more so than those set down by God himself. I'm curious as to what anyone else might think about this, do you think the two situations are similar? |
| D Tyler | 5 | 3/21/2010 12:02 PM | Did God want Adam and Eve to be happy? In the Genesis story, Adam and Eve were thrown out for eating the fruit of knowledge, as it gave them the ability to discern right from wrong. As we have hinted at in class discussions, Adam and Eve had happiness in the garden, but true happiness can only be found if ones chooses it for themselves. Without eating the apple, Adam and eve could never have experienced the happiness of true free will. A lot of people question why god even put the tree in Eden, if he did not want them to eat from it, so I ask this: Did God want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree, and therefore gain the ability to find true happiness in their new found free will? |
| Charlie Hustle14 | 10 | 3/21/2010 9:49 AM | Why did god let them sin? The bible says that god is all knowing and sees all. It says that he knew addam and eve were going to sin that is why he created the prophecy of sending a savior. Why did he let them so that he would have to send his son to suffer on earth and that we all have to suffer? |
| Charlie Hustle14 | 11 | 3/14/2010 11:20 AM | choices? In the addam and eve story god knowsthere going to sin but wants to give them to choice to show us that all sin is a choice for everybody. Evrytime we sin we choose to sin. Any body wanna t\debate me on this? |
| Sweeney11 | 12 | 3/10/2010 6:31 PM | Thoughts about meaning I've gone to church all my life and I've heard this story out of Genesis many many times and I know what it means to me. Talking about God creating the earth, Adam and Eve sinned, so they were kicked out of the Garden of Eden, Cain kills Abel. To me, these events aren't just stories, they're real lessons that God uses to teach. The Bible is definitely a very very controversial item. I'm just curious about everyone elses thoughts on this. |
| Charlie Hustle14 | 5 | 3/9/2010 7:54 PM | The class prompt Is adam and eves sin the same as cains? Well to a certain degree i agree they both choose to sin and they both involved greed. Cain was greedy by not giving his whole heart to god like able did. Addam and eve were greedy by not just being happy with what they had. So i could see how they would be similiar. Any ideas? |
| Charlie Hustle14 | 2 | 3/9/2010 7:52 PM | For shadow? I think the book of gensis sets up the rest of the history of the world. It intorduces us to choice. Humans whole life is based of choices. Addam and eve choose to sin and because of that we all are sinners and god sent his son to do for us and we have to choose to accept. Than all sin is a choice any thoughts? |
