A few pointers for professional presentation:
-
Dress "one notch" above the audience to impress with credibility, professionalism, maturity. Don't go overboard: you can turn an audience off and lose pathos.
-
Avoid swaying jewelry, too many bright fabrics, etc. This can distract.
Men:
-
Business suits are the choice for professional presentations. Sports jackets and sweaters are for promoting an idea of equality with the audience.
-
Dark blue and gray suits are best; others are distracting or cause you to blend in to the background
-
Wool over wool/polyester or polyester blends in jackets; all-cotton over blends for shirts. Shirts should be white or light blue for professional presentations.
-
Neckties should reflect personality, but avoid the overly graphic ones--the focus is on you, not your tie.
-
Dark shoes with laces over loafers; dress socks that reach the calf (in case you have to sit or step up)
-
Keep the jacket on, unless the room is unbearably warm or you remove it for a particular effect.
Women:
-
Avoid red. This is distracting and takes away from your face, where the attention should be. Blues and grays are best colors with scarves and other accessories being more colorful
-
Keep your hair off your face
-
Keep heels lower for comfortable balance |
